We are interested in the mechanisms whereby the brain controls homeostatic functions such as the sleep-awake cycle and energy metabolism. Our focus is on the involvement of transmitters, in particular neuropeptides. These issues are investigated by slice electrophysiology and anatomical methods such as immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridisation. The long-term aim of our research is to elucidate the organization of behaviourally defined brain circuits, to better understand the physiology of metabolism and sleep-awake transition and the pathophysiology of eating, sleep and seizure disorders.
