The aim of this group is to study the alpha-motoneuron response to different types of axonal injury. We focus especially on the mechanisms underlying detachment and re-formation of synaptic terminals on somata of severed neurons during early and late stages of recovery. The ongoing projects focus on synaptic plasticity and neuron-glial interactions in the rodent spinal cord or brainstem after nerve lesion. Our goal is to identify key ligands and receptors of major importance for motoneuron regeneration with special regard to re-establishment of synaptic input and target innervation. |
